The local name of passionflower, at least among the Aztecs, was snake language (they used it for snake bites). Passionflower contains three main types of chemicals: alkaloids, glycosides and flavonoids (mainly chrysin, which is associated with its calming effect). Natural serotonin and maltol, a chemical with a proven sedative effect, have also been isolated. The herb is used by phytotherapists for anxiety, insomnia, hysteria, high blood pressure, rapid pulse, pain of various kinds, muscle and joint problems, alcoholism, cough, asthma, menopause, as an aphrodisiac.

VALERIAN EXTRACT

The stem has opposite feathery leaves, the flowers are light pink to white, in complex inflorescences in summer, then form small seeds with white hairs. Contains essential oil (valerian ester) in the glycoside valeride, valepotriates, alkaloids, resins, tannins (tannins), sugars. The roots contain iridoids, valeric acids, which affect the nervous system. It is used by folk medicine internally for nervous fatigue, to regulate heart activity, for insomnia, hysteria, fear, high blood pressure.
