Loratadine contains the active substance loratadine, which belongs to the group 'antihistamines' (anti-allergy medicines). It is used to treat the symptoms of some allergic diseases due to increased release of histamine. Loratadine is used to relieve the symptoms of allergic rhinitis (itchy nose, sneezing and watery discharge, red eyes) and chronic idiopathic urticaria (itching, redness and swelling of the skin). If after 10 days you do not feel better or your condition worsens, you should seek medical help.

 Active substance:in 1 tablet: 
 Loratadine10 mg
 The other ingredients: lactose monohydrate; cornstarch; cellulose, microcrystalline; povidone; silica, colloidal anhydrous; magnesium stearate.


Always take this medicine exactly as described in this leaflet or as your doctor or pharmacist have told you. If you are not sure, talk to your doctor or pharmacist.

Loratadine tablets are taken orally with a sufficient amount of water (eg a glass of water), regardless of food intake.

Maximum daily dose -10 mg (1 tablet).

The recommended dose is:

  • Adults and children over 12 years – 1 tablet daily.
  • Children from 6 to 12 years
    • weighing more than 30 kg – 1 tablet daily.
    • with a body weight of less than 30 kg – the use of the syrup dosage form is recommended or 1/2 tablet daily is administered.
  • Children from 2 to 6 years
    • The use of the syrup dosage form is recommended.
  • Children under 2 years of age
    • The safety and effectiveness of Loratadine in children under 2 years of age have not been established.
  • Patients with impaired liver and kidney function
  • In patients with severe hepatic impairment, a lower dose is initially given. In adults and children weighing more than 30 kg, 1 tablet per day is recommended. For children weighing less than 30 kg, 1/2 tablet per day is recommended.
  • In patients with kidney problems – 1 tablet daily.
  • Patients over 65 years – 1 tablet daily.

Loratadine treatment can be long-term – from 2 to 6 months.

If you take more Loratadine than you should If you take more than the prescribed dose, drowsiness, dizziness, nausea and vomiting may occur. In case of overdose, seek medical advice.

If you forget to take Loratadine

If you miss a dose, take it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, take it as usual. Do not take a double dose to make up for a forgotten dose.

Do not take Loratadine:

  • if you are allergic (hypersensitive) to the active substance or to any of the other ingredients of this medicine.

Warnings and precautions

Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before using Loratadine

  • if you suffer from liver disease;
  • if you are about to have a skin allergy test.

The product should be discontinued at least 48 hours before the skin test, as antihistamines such as loratadine may otherwise affect or mask the positive reaction of the skin test.

Other medicines and Loratadine

Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking, have recently taken or might take any other medicines.

Co-administration of loratadine with erythromycin (antibiotic), cimetidine and ketoconazole (antifungal agents) has increased blood levels of loratadine, but this has not led to clinical changes (including in the electrocardiogram).

Loratadine with food, drink and alcohol

Taking the tablets does not depend on food intake. The effects of alcohol are not enhanced by taking Loratadine

Pregnancy, breast-feeding and fertility

If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine.


The use of Loratadine during pregnancy is not recommended.


It is not recommended to take Loratadine during breast-feeding, as loratadine passes into breast milk.

Driving and using machines

Although rare, drowsiness may occur, which may adversely affect your ability to drive and use machines. It is therefore advisable to wait and assess your individual reaction before driving or operating machinery.

Loratadine contains lactose:

If you have been told by your doctor that you have an intolerance to some sugars, contact your doctor before taking this medicinal product.

Possible side effects

Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.

  • Headaches, nervousness and fatigue are most common in children between the ages of 2 and 12.
  • Drowsiness, headache, increased appetite, insomnia are most common in adults and adolescents.

Adverse reactions are ranked under headings of frequency using the following convention:

  • Very rare (may affect up to 1 in 10,000 people)
    • hypersensitivity reaction – angioedema (severe allergic reaction that causes swelling of the face or throat) and anaphylaxis (severe allergic reaction which causes difficulty breathing or dizziness), dizziness, convulsions
    • palpitations, rapid heartbeat
    • nausea, dry mouth, stomach inflammation
    • impaired liver function
    • rash, hair loss, fatigue
  • Not known (cannot be estimated from the available data)
    • increased weight.

How to store Loratadine

Store in a dry and protected from light place, at a temperature below 25 ° С. Keep out of reach of children.

Do not use after the expiry date which is stated on the carton. The expiry date refers to the last day of that month. Do not throw away any medicines via wastewater or household waste. Ask your pharmacist how to dispose of medicines no longer required. These measures will help to protect the environment.
